“From the maker” means the setting comes from that grinder's own manual or grind chart. “Modelled” means we derived it — see the grind pipeline for how.
Common questions
How do you decide the setting shown for each brew method?
Where a grinder's maker publishes a setting — in its manual or its own grind chart — we print that number and label it “From the maker”. Everything else is interpolated along the maker's own curve, or modelled from the grinder's dial where there is no chart, and labelled “Modelled”.
How many grinders can I compare at once?
Up to 3. Two is the usual question; a third helps when you are down to a shortlist.
Can I share a comparison?
Yes — the grinders you pick are in the address, so the link opens the exact table you are looking at. The share button copies it.
Why does a grinder show “Not recommended” for a method?
Because its maker says so, or because the grinder physically cannot reach that grind size. Both are stated rather than left blank, since “this one cannot do it” is often the answer you are comparing for.
