Sidama

Sidama is the large southern zone that Yirgacheffe sits inside, and on its own it produces far more coffee than its more famous neighbour. Altitude runs from around 1,550 m to well over 2,200 m, and the range is wide enough that lots from different corners of it have little in common.

Like most of Ethiopia it is smallholder garden coffee, aggregated through washing stations. Both washed and natural processing are done well here, which is unusual anywhere else.

Broader than Yirgacheffe and often sweeter: citrus and stone fruit over a fuller body, with floral notes on the highest washed lots and heavy berry on the naturals.

A wide band of highland running south from the Rift Valley, with altitude varying sharply over short distances.
