About the region

Antioquia was the heart of the Colombian industry for most of its history — the department that built the national federation and much of the country's coffee culture with it. Medellín's name still appears as an old trade designation for coffee from this region.

It is lower and warmer than Huila or Nariño, and the farms are on average larger, though still smallholder by world standards.

In the cup

Rounder and lower-toned than the southern departments: chocolate, nut and brown sugar over a soft citric acidity, with a full body.

Terrain

The northern end of the Central and Western cordilleras, warmer and lower than the southern growing areas.
