About the region

Tolima lies between Huila and the capital, on the eastern flank of the Central cordillera. It was slow to reach specialty buyers for reasons that had nothing to do with the coffee — parts of the department were inaccessible for decades — and has been catching up quickly since.

Holdings are small even by Colombian standards, and most of what is sold as single-origin Tolima is a cooperative or exporter blend of many neighbouring farms.

In the cup

Sweet and balanced, sitting between Huila's caramel and Nariño's brightness: red apple and citrus acidity, panela sweetness, medium body.

Terrain

The eastern slope of the Central cordillera, steep and broken, with altitude climbing quickly from the Magdalena valley.

Varieties
