About the region

The West Valley is where most of Costa Rica's processing experimentation happens. The micromill model took hold here early and hard, and a very high proportion of the country's honey-process and anaerobic lots come from this relatively small area.

It is also where the Villa Sarchí variety originated — a compact Bourbon mutation that handles wind well and is still planted across the region.

In the cup

Sweet and aromatic, with peach and apricot over a soft acidity. The honey and natural lots this region is known for push into tropical fruit and heavy caramel.

Terrain

Rolling volcanic country west of the Central Valley, slightly lower and drier than Tarrazú.

Varieties

Villa Sarchi Caturra Catuai
