About the region

The Cerrado is high, flat savannah with a dry season so sharply defined that the whole crop ripens at once — which makes it the most mechanised coffee landscape in the world. Harvesting machines straddle the rows and strip entire trees in a pass.

It was also Brazil's first denomination of origin for coffee, a formal recognition that the plateau's uniformity produces a consistent and identifiable cup.

In the cup

Clean and consistent, with chocolate and hazelnut sweetness, a syrupy body and very low acidity. The uniform ripening shows: fewer defects and less variation between lots than anywhere else at this scale.

Terrain

Flat high savannah around 1,000 m with a hard dry season, well suited to mechanical harvesting.

Other regions in Brazil

Sul de Minas The largest Arabica area in the country, in southern Minas Gerais. Mogiana Hillier country on the São Paulo side of the Minas border. Espírito Santo The Conilon (Robusta) heartland, on the coast north of Rio.
